Scottie Barnes calmly sank a go-ahead free throw with 0.8 seconds left in overtime, giving the Toronto Raptors a dramatic 116-115 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday night in the opener of a back-to-back series between injury-depleted teams.
Barnes made the first of two attempts from the line, then deliberately missed the second to run out the clock. He finished a perfect 10-for-12 on free throws and totaled 31 points to lead Toronto, which has now won three straight home games — including three consecutive meetings with Philadelphia.
Jamal Shead delivered a career-best 22 points, Immanuel Quickley scored 20, and Collin Murray-Boyles chipped in 17 points and 15 rebounds, matching his career high on the glass.
Philadelphia’s Tyrese Maxey poured in 38 points, while VJ Edgecombe added 17. Kelly Oubre Jr., Domnick Barlow, and Quentin Grimes each scored 13, but the 76ers fell for just the second time in their past seven outings.
Both teams were missing key contributors. The 76ers played without Joel Embiid (knee/groin) and Paul George (knee), while Toronto welcomed Barnes back after he missed Friday’s loss in Boston. The Raptors were still without RJ Barrett (ankle), Brandon Ingram (thumb), and Jakob Poeltl, who sat out his 10th straight game with a back issue. Rookie Ja’Kobe Walter started but exited early in the first quarter because of a sore hip.
Despite struggling mightily from deep — shooting just 5 for 32 from 3-point range — Toronto capitalized on Philadelphia’s mistakes. The 76ers committed 22 turnovers and recorded a season-low 11 assists.
