The Toronto Raptors could be eyeing frontcourt depth with pick No. 39.
Auburn’s Johni Broome reportedly worked out with Toronto ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, according to HoopsHype.
Broome was one of the more productive big men in college. The fifth-year senior with a 7-foot wingspan averaged 18.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 blocks this past season. The 22-year-old has a high motor, is physical in the paint and is a sound rim protector.
The Raptors currently don’t have a reliable backup center behind Jakob Poeltl on their depth chart. Broom can instantly fit that need for them. He has the experience and can be valuable on the floor without needing touches. From his screen setting, to running the floor hard to making the right decisions, he does the little things well. He’s also a strong shot blocker.
However, where Broome has limitations is with his shooting. Broome only shot two threes per game this past season and he was a 31 percent three-point shooter across five seasons in college. He’s a poor three-throw shooter as well as he just shot 59 percent from the free-throw line.
Broome’s strengths of rebounding and rim protection make him an intriguing option for the Raptors in the second-round. If the Raptors decide to take a wing or guard in the first-round at pick No. 9 then they could use No. 39 on a big man and Broome would be a nice pick there.
Derik Queen projected to Raptors in ESPN’s latest mock draft
If the Toronto Raptors do decide to take a big man at No. 9, they could have their eyes on Maryland center Derik Queen.
ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo both penciled him in to the Raptors in their latest mock draft.
