The run is over.

The Toronto Raptors were eliminated in the Summer League semifinals by the Sacramento Kings 98-88.

The Raptors stumbled out of the gate as the Kings built a big lead early. They were up by as many as 22 points at one point. However, the Raptors picked it up defensively in the fourth quarter to make it a game. They blitzed the Kings and forced many turnovers as the lead quickly evaporated. Toronto got within 1 point but the Kings kept responding. They were lead by Isaac Jones who scored a game-high 36 points. He came up clutch for Sacramento down the stretch when they needed a bucket.

Jamal Shead who helped engineer the Raptors comeback attempt had a huge performance of 24 points and 12 assists. JaKobe Walter also chipped in with 19 points, but he fouled out late.

The Raptors defense gave them a chance, but they just didn’t have enough halfcourt creation to get the job done.

Even though the Raptors didn’t advance to the finals they still have to be proud about their overall Summer League showing. Their defense was incredible throughout the entire run and was the reason why they almost pulled off the 22-point comeback against the Kings. The rookies Collin Murray-Boyles and Alijah Martin showed a lot of good things on both ends of the floor and the second year players Shead, Walter, Jonathan Mogo and Ulrich Chomche all had standout moments as well.

Considering how bad the last two years of Summer League were for the Raptors, a top 4 finish is certainly a step in the right direction and a sign of strong player development.

Rookie Collin Murray-Boyles helps Raptors advance to Summer League semifinals

One of the major bright spots for the Toronto Raptors during Summer League was the play of rookie Collin Murray-Boyles.

He had a breakout performance in the Raptors’ fourth Summer League game, scoring 20 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals.
