Former Toronto Raptors center Khem Birch is a champion.
He won the EuroLeague title on Sunday while playing with the Turkish side Fenerbahce.
Birch scored 2 points and hauled in 6 rebounds in the final game as Fenerbahce beat Monaco 81-70 in the final.
Birch talked to Bugra Uzar of EuroHoops.net after winning the title:
“This is like a movie. You know my story, I lost to Fener seven years ago, and now I have won with them. This is like a movie to me… This is my No.1 accomplishment, and now I want more..I know what I’m capable of, and now they see.”
Birch’s time in the NBA appears to be over. At 32-years-old it seems like he’s well established in the next phase of his career which is playing overseas.
Birch spent parts of three seasons with the Raptors. He started 45 of his 94 games with the team. Birch first joined the Raptors in the 2020-21 season when they were playing in Tampa, Florida, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He last played in the NBA in Toronto during the 2022-23 season. Overall, Birch averaged 5.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists during his Raptors tenure.
Birch was then traded by the Raptors to the San Antonio Spurs in the deal that brought Jakob Poeltl back to Toronto. However, he was eventually put on waivers prior to the 2023-24 season before he left for Europe. Birch is from Montreal and he was also part of the 2024 Canadian Olympic roster in Paris, where Team Canada lost to Team France in the quarterfinals.
