The Toronto Raptors are signing sharpshooter Cole Swider.
The 25-year-old forward has signed a 10-day contract with the Raptors to fill Toronto’s final roster spot, the team announced on Wednesday. Swider replaces Colin Castleton, whose second 10-day deal expired on Tuesday night.
Swider appeared in two games for the Detroit Pistons earlier this season but has spent most of the season in the G League with the South Bay Lakers and Motor City Cruise. Swider has averaged 21.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 44.2 percent from three in 31 G League games.
He went undrafted in 2022 and signed a two-way contract with the Lakers.
Swider has played in just 27 NBA games in three seasons. He played in 18 games with the Miami Heat last year, which included him setting a career-high with 14 points against the Utah Jazz.
Castleton’s short tenure with Toronto ends after 10 games. He averaged 6.9 points and 7.4 rebounds while making 4 starts with the team. If the Raptors wanted to keep him beyond his second 10-day contract, they would have had to sign him for the reason of the season. With Castleton gone, Orlando Robinson is the lone backup big behind Jakob Poeltl.
Swider will be available against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night. The newest Raptor should get some minutes from off the bench as he will be another floor spacer who can knock down shots.
