With trade season underway, Toronto Raptors guard Bruce Brown has already come up as a potential player on the move.
It’s no surprise that the Raptors have been trying to net a trade for him since they acquired him in the Pascal Siakam deal with the Indiana Pacers.
However, Brown has been on the sideline since getting knee surgery in the offseason and has yet to make his season debut.
ESPN’s NBA insider Bobby Marks was on “The Raptors Show” With Blake Murphy and Matt Bonner, to discuss Brown’s current value in the trade market.
Marks mentioned that Brown’s $23 million contract makes him harder to move than a contract in the $9-$14 million range, which he called the sweet spot.
“I think [Chris] Boucher’s contract is in that sweet spot…I think Chris has a little bit more value than [Bruce Brown] right now,” Marks said.
Boucher’s on a $10.8 million dollar expiring deal so he seems to be easier to move than Brown at this point.
Marks also mentioned that Brown’s value has dropped and they might have to play things out into the offseason.
“He probably had a little more value last year…when he was in Indiana [Pacers], or maybe right when you got him in Toronto to try and flip him again. What Toronto has to look at, does Bruce Brown have more value to us if we hold onto him and maybe we maybe we wait until the offseason and maybe there’s some sign-and-trades that may materialize,” Marks said.
Health will be the biggest thing for Brown. If he can return before the end of the month it’ll give him some time to restore his value, but if he remains off the court then teams will wonder about his status.
“I want to see Bruce [Brown] play, I want to see where he is health wise, I want to see where his knee is. Like there is a lot of different factors. If I’m going to trade a couple of seconds (second-round picks] and maybe two players for him I want to know what we’re getting,” Marks said.
The best ability is arability and if Brown doesn’t suit up soon, it will be tough to find a deal for him before the trade deadline.
