Hypothetical Raptors Trade Sees Andrew Wiggins To Toronto

The Toronto Raptors may be in a rebuild, but they still possess valuable trade pieces in Jakob Poeltl and Bruce Brown.

Poeltl has recently become a double-double machine for the Raptors as their frontcourt depth has lacked.

Meanwhile, Brown is yet to suit up this season with a lingering knee issue. But, he has proven to be a valuable role player in a winning situation.

As players begin to become trade eligible on Dec. 15, trade rumors are expected to heat up.

In light of that, Nathaniel Holloway of The Sporting News proposed an interesting hypothetical trade between Toronto and the Golden State Warriors:

“The Warriors could make a trade with the Toronto Raptors to fill both holes in their roster. In a possible trade, they could send Wiggins, Melton, Gui Santos and draft picks to Toronto for Jakob Poeltl and Bruce Brown.

For the Raptors, adding another star in Wiggins would improve their lineup. With Toronto still rebuilding, they may also take on Melton’s expiring contract despite him being out for the season while also adding another young player in Santos.”

Ideally, the Raptors would want at the minimum a first-round pick for Poeltl. Since Brown has yet to play, the Raptors might not get a first-round pick for his services.

But, this is an intriguing trade due to Andrew Wiggins having a bit of a resurgence from last season, offensively. In addition to providing more size in the Raptors starting lineup. Which fits with the franchises’ ideology by having an abundance of athletic, lengthy players that can get after it on both ends of the floor.

Wiggins next to Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley is a solid foundation.

Meanwhile, Poeltl and Brown help the Warriors stay competitive in the Western Conference. So, perhaps this benefits both sides in the end. However, it’s very unlikely a trade like this gets done.

Kelly Olynyk linked to Warriors

If this trade were to materialize, this would not be the first time the Warriors have expressed interest in a Raptors player.

Leading up to last season’s trade deadline, Kelly Olynyk was linked to Golden State before his eventual departure to Toronto.
