The Toronto Raptors will be without Scottie Barnes for the next little while.
It was reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania that Barnes is expected to miss several weeks due to a right ankle sprain. The injury happened during the third quarter of Monday night’s game against the New York Knicks when Karl-Anthony Towns came down on Barnes’ foot.
Barnes had already missed 11 games this season with an orbital fracture and now he will be sidelined again. He has officially been ruled out for the Raptors matchup against the Miami Heat. Without Barnes, the Raptors will likely insert Davion Mitchell back into the starting lineup alongside RJ Barrett, Gradey Dick, Ochai Agbaji and Jakob Poeltl.
Meanwhile, Immanuel Quickley and Bruce Brown remain out. Quickley had more imaging done of his sprained left UCL and he is “progressing,” per TSN’s Josh Lewenberg. However, the guard still hasn’t been cleared to ramp up or practice and there is no timeline for his return. There is also no timeline for Brown’s return as he continues to recover from his offseason knee surgery.
For the Heat, Jimmy Butler (knee) is probable and Pelle Larson (ankle) is doubtful. Josh Richardson (heel) is out.
This will be the third meeting between the Heat and Raptors this season. The Heat defeated the Raptors 121-111 in Miami on Nov. 29. The Raptors then returned the favor by defeating the Heat 119-116 in Toronto on Dec. 1.
