The Toronto Raptors have made their trade with the Sacramento Kings official.
The Raptors announced Friday that they have acquired guard Davion Mitchell, forward Sasha Vezenkov, the draft rights to Jamal Shead and a 2025 second round pick (via the Portland Trail Blazers) from the Kings in exchange for forward Jalen McDaniels.
The Raptors add their backup point guard in Mitchell. He averaged 5.3 points, 1.9 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 72 games with the Kings last season. He shot 45.2 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from deep.
Mitchell only played in 15.3 minutes per game with the Kings so he should see an increased workload in Toronto as Immanuel Quickley’s primary backup.
The Raptors also add Vezenkov. He appeared in 42 games with the Kings last season, averaging 5.4 points and 2.3 rebounds. He shot 44 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from three. He should help the Raptors in the three-point shooting department.
Finally, the Raptors receive Shead. He was picked 45th overall by Sacramento in the 2024 NBA Draft before being flipped to Toronto. He played four seasons at Houston where he averaged 9.7 points, 5.0 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 138 career games (108 starts). Last season Shead was named the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year and became the first player in Big 12 history to earn Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors in same season.
Raptors general manager Bobby Webster commented on the trade, via the team’s official press release:
“This trade provides us with a mix of young and veteran players, as well as future flexibility and draft assets, as we continue our quest to win, and so we’re pleased to welcome Davion, Sasha and Jamal to the Raptors and to Toronto. We thank Jalen [McDaniels] for his contributions, and we wish him all the best in the future.”
Jalen McDaniels averaged just 3.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 50 games with the Raptors last season.
