Nick Nurse didn’t have to think twice.
Draymond Green asked Nurse who is the greatest Toronto Raptors player of all time on The Draymond Green Show.
“Kyle Lowry,” Nurse said without hesitating.
Nurse arrived in Toronto as an assistant coach back in 2013. That is when Lowry was still trying to find his way. Things ended up working out for Lowry in Toronto as he went on to become a multiple-time All-Star.
Nurse talked about what Lowry brought to the Raptors organization:
“Just his competitive fire. He’s one of those guys, that they just can’t help themselves when it’s time to compete like there’s no way they’re not competing. It’s like something’s going to turn on and it’s gonna happen. It’s just so deeply ingrained in him.”
Nurse also talked about how he admired Lowry’s work ethic. How he was a constant work horse and did so much to help his team win:
“I never seen a guy like in a flurry of four minutes do so much, like, bang a shot, come down take a charge, come down knock somebody lay it in, steal one, you know, it’s just like a whirlwind of winning in like 90 seconds or something. You just can’t help but love that…I think six all stars and two gold medals, that’s unbelievable. He continues to just do a lot of it. I mean, he’s six foot tall. Right? He does it all and a lot of heart and toughness.”
Lowry was a huge part of the Raptors success over the years and was a pillar of the 2019 championship team.
Lowry is now 38-years-old as his career is starting to wind down. Still, Lowry has a lot left in the tank and can help a contenting team. He’s a free agent this offseason and has said that he has no plans to retire this summer.
