Trade season is ramping up. After the Toronto Raptors were busy in trading both O.G. Anunoby and Pascal Siakam, the trades continue to come in.

The Miami Heat are the latest team to make a splash.

The Heat have traded Lowry to the Charlotte Hornets in a trade that was announced Tuesday morning.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Lowry has been traded from the Heat to the Hornets alongside a 2027 first-round draft pick in exchange for point guard Terry Rozier:

This will be Lowry’s fifth team in his NBA career. He previously played for the Grizzlies and Rockets before creating a hall of fame resume with the Raptors.

The Raptors then moved Lowry to Miami in the summer of 2021 as part of a sign-and-trade. Lowry played 619 regular season games in 9 seasons with the Raptors, averaging 17.5 points, 7.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds.

He made six All-Star teams during his time in Toronto and he was a huge part of the Raptors winning the 2019 NBA championship.

Lowry has slowed down over the last few seasons. He has averaged 8.2 points, 4 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 37 games so far this season.

Will Lowry be on the move again?

Lowry could become a buyout candidate as the Hornets certainly won’t hold onto him.

While Lowry isn’t the player he used to be he can still offer three-point shooting, toughness and veteran leadership to a team looking to win a title.

There are teams that could use Lowry as a backup point guard in a long playoff run. Perhaps, the Philadelphia 76ers or Phoenix Suns pursue him.

As for the Raptors, bringing Lowry back to a rebuilding Toronto team doesn’t make any sense. However, Lowry did say that he wants to retire a Raptor.
