Darryl Morsell’s tenure as an official member of the Toronto Raptors lasted 6 hours.

The Raptors waived Morsell hours after they signed him on an Exhibit 10 deal on Friday.

Toronto will now retain his rights for the Raptors 905 for this season:

Morsell averaged 7.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in four Summer League games for the Raptors. Morsell spent last season with the 905 where he averaged 8.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. He shot it 42.9 percent from the floor and 24 percent from deep.

The Raptors had signed Morsell after they waived Kevin Obanor earlier in the week.

Toronto once again has an open spot on their 21-man roster.

The Raptors will hold Media Day on Oct. 2 in Toronto and then they will travel to Vancouver for training camp. The team will practice on Oct. 3 through Oct. 7 at Christine Sinclair Community Centre in Burnaby.

No progress on a Siakam extension

As the Raptors gear up for the upcoming 2023-24 NBA season, the team still has a lot of unanswered questions.

OG Anunoby, Gary Trent Jr. and Pascal Siakam are set to become unrestricted free agents in the summer of 2024. The Raptors can work on an Anunoby extension in October, but he can receive more money if he declines his player option and enters free agency after this season.

There was speculation that the Raptors would lock up Gary Trent Jr. in the summer after he opted in but nothing has happened yet.

The biggest question mark is what will happen with Pascal Siakam? The Raptors have not traded nor extended Siakam to this point.

Toronto is eligible to sign Siakam now to a maximum contract extension of four years and at least $192 million.

However, Siakam could be holding out for a chance to receive an even bigger pay day. If Siakam makes the All-NBA team this coming season, he would be eligible for a five-year $307.23 million supermax contract in free agency next summer.

Nonetheless, there is still no progress on a Siakam extension and if the Raptors stumble out of the gate this season, his name could pop up once again in trade rumors closer to the trade deadline.
