The Toronto Raptors continue to be at a crossroads with Pascal Siakam. The team has not traded their All-Star forward nor have they signed him to a contract extension.

Siakam’s future in Toronto remains in question with the 2023-24 season fast approaching.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Raptors rejected a deal from the Hawks for Siakam. The Hawks offered De’Andre Hunter, AJ Griffin, and draft compensation:

“Atlanta has offered a package centered around De’Andre Hunter, AJ Griffin and draft compensation to Toronto for Siakam, league sources say. But the Raptors are believed to have upped the price on any possible deal at each turn.

For now, talks are at a complete pause, and the Hawks are fully prepared to enter the 2023-24 season with their current team, according to league sources. For now, Siakam is a Raptor, and even without an extension, he could very well remain one through the trade deadline.”

Siakam is entering the final year of his current contract. He’ll earn $37.9 million for the 2023-24 season, and he is set to be an unrestricted free agent in the 2024 offseason.

Siakam is currently eligible for a max contract extension worth 30% of the salary cap. If he makes All-NBA that number could grow to 35%.

Charania notes that Pascal Siakam has not asked to be traded despite the trade rumors.

Also it seems like Siakam is not willing to re-sign with the team that trades for him and he prefers to remain in Toronto, according to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes:

There’s growing sentiment Toronto star Pascal Siakam — who’s on an expiring deal — would not re-sign with a team who attempts to trade for him as his preference is to remain with the Raptors, sources tell @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport.

The Raptors seem content with their current situation and don’t appear to be in a rush to make a decision on Siakam’s future in Toronto.

Pascal Siakam’s All-Star season

The Raptors finished ninth in the Eastern Conference last season (41-41) and missed out on the playoffs.

Siakam was one of the lone bright spots on the team as he still produced at an elite level. He was named an All-Star for the second time is his career and just missed out on making the All-NBA team.

He averaged 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists on 48.0% shooting in 71 games.
