The Toronto Raptors have acquired their backup center.

They reportedly sign Sandro Mamukelashvili to a two-year, $5.5 million deal, per ESPN’s Shams Charania:

Raptors use their veteran minimum on the 26-year-old who shot 37 percent on 161 three-point attempts with San Antonio last season.  Mamukelashvili will bring a different dynamic than Poeltl with his ability to space the floor.

This past season Mamukelashvili scored 34 points in under 20 minutes against the New York Knicks on March 19th. It was the most points a player has scored in under 20 minutes since 1977.

In his per-36 numbers in 61 games with Spurs last season, Mamukelashvili averaged 20.4 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.2 steals, 0.9 blocks on 50 percent shooting from the field and 37 percent from deep. It will be interesting to see what he does in a bigger role under head coach Darko Rajakovic.

Barring a trade there’s a good chance the Raptors are done making moves this offseason. After signing Garrett Temple and Mamukelashvili, Toronto will have 13 players on guaranteed contracts. Jamison Battle whose contract guarantees on July 9 and Alijah Martin are expected to fill the Raptors’ final two spots.

The Raptors are now projected to go into next season just over the tax. It will be an expensive roster for a team that was just in the lottery last season. The tax is charged to teams after game 82 of the season so the Raptors could first get a look at what this group can do and potentially make a trade at the trade deadline to shed money.

Raptors re-Sign Garrett Temple

The Toronto Raptors are bringing back Garrett Temple for another season.

Temple agreed to a one-year, $3.6 million deal with the Raptors, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
