The Toronto Raptors have parted ways with team president Masai Ujiri, according to ESPN’s Shams Charnia.
The Raptors parting ways with Ujiri ends the most successful run in the franchise’s history.
Ujiri had one year remaining on his current contract and had publicly expressed that he was committed to the franchise.
The Raptors will now carry on without the executive who helped lead them to their only championship.
Ujiri joined the Raptors organization as general manager in 2013 and he was promoted to president in 2016. He pulled off arguably the biggest move in franchise history when he traded for Kawhi Leonard in 2018 which led to the 2019 championship.
The Raptors’ decision to part ways with Ujiri comes after the NBA Draft and ahead of NBA free agency next week.
MLSE continues to shuffle things. Brendan Shanahan was recently removed as president of the Toronto Maple Leafs with no replacement named and now Ujiri is out with no replacement named.
Chairman Larry Tanenbaum is set to sell his stake in the company by July 2026, which will give Rogers Communications increased control.
Prior to Ujiri’s departure, Raptors general manager Bobby Webster had reached a contract extension with the team, per Sportsnet’s Michael Grange.
The rest of the Raptors front office staff will also remain the same. MLSE intends to replace Ujiri with a new president, per TSN’s Josh Lewenberg.
Raptors select Alijah Martin No. 39 in 2025 NBA Draft
The Toronto Raptors selected Florida guard Alijah Martin with the 39th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Martin is an undersized guard at 6-foot-2, but he brings explosiveness and defensive versatility to the Raptors. He’s a tenacious defender who averaged a career-high 14.4 points this past season to help Florida win the national title. He also posted 4.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals. Martin shot 36 percent from three on 5.4 attempts over his college career.
