A.J. Lawson had a career night for the Toronto Raptors in their 119-104 win over the Washigton Wizards.
He put up a career-high 32 points and 12 rebounds as he led the Raptors to a convincing win.
The Raptors signed Lawson to a two-way contract in December and he has averaged 18.9 points and 1.2 steals a game for Raptors 905 in 22 appearances.
With the Raptors main club, he’s averaging 6.9 points and 2.4 rebounds in 10 games, highlighted by his breakout performance against the Wizards.
Lawson is from Brampton, Ontario and he is realizing a big dream of playing for the Raptors in the NBA.
“I’m a Toronto kid, grew up in Brampton. Having a performance like this means everything for the city, for (my) family, for the country,” Lawson said via The Toronto Star’s Libaan Osman.
With the season winding down and the Raptors making their intentions clear that they’re focusing on the upcoming draft, Lawson will continue to get plenty of reps down the stretch. He has been featured in the Raptors closing lineups as of late and he has now scored in double-figures twice over his last five games.
Lawson will continue to get a big chance to prove himself over the next couple of weeks.
