Brandon Ingram remains out with an ankle injury and there is still no timetable for his return.
The newly acquired Raptors forward has been out since Dec. 7 as he continues to rehab.
“He’s rehabbing. Our medical [staff], our coaches are learning him at the same time, what he’s capable to do,” Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic told reporters prior to Tuesday’s game against the Boston Celtics, per blogTO’s Adam Laskaris.
Ingram was introduced to the Raptors media earlier this month and he’s excited to be in Toronto. The Raptors are getting a former All-Star and one of the most versatile scoring wings in the league.
“I think he’s an amazing talent, one of the best shooters in the league. So we’re definitely excited to have him join our team and to learn our style, to learn how we want to play, how we want to share the ball,” Rajakovic said.
The plan is for the Raptors to be extra cautious with Ingram and bring him back slowly. There is no rush to get him back on the court and the team is monitoring his progress bi-weekly.
“We’re breaking down his recovery and this plan into two-week chunks, and every two weeks, we’re going to give an update how he’s doing, how he’s progressing, Rajakovic added. “I’m planning to meet with him on this road trip as well, just to continue watching film and diving into his game and how that translates in our team.”
For the Raptors there are 23 games left on their season, so there is a possibility that Ingram doesn’t play at all before the end of this year’s campaign. The Raptors have made their intentions known about the upcoming draft lottery, so perhaps they sit Ingram out the rest of the way. If Ingram does suit up, it doesn’t seem like it will be for many games.
Nonetheless, when Ingram does return to action it will mark a fresh new start for the franchise.
