Bruce Brown could be on the move ahead of the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline.
The Toronto Raptors were expected to move him at last year’s deadline, but Toronto couldn’t find the first-round draft compensation they were hoping to receive.
Brown’s production then dipped in the second half of last season due to a knee injury. He eventually got knee surgery in the offseason which made him miss the first part of this season. Brown has only played in 9 games thus far as he tries to get back to his old form.
The Raptors are motivated to move Brown in a deal, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer:
“The Raptors are very motivated to move Brown and his $23 million salary, sources said, in hopes of growing the return from trading Pascal Siakam to Indiana on Jan. 17, 2024…If no trade materializes involving Brown, he would surely be in great demand as a buyout candidate.”
Brown has averaged 7.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 9 appearances for Toronto this season. He is coming off his best performance of the season against the Milwaukee Bucks where he scored 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting.
If the Raptors aren’t able to move Brown, a buyout could be looming. The Raptors could also consider keeping Brown and explore sign-and-trade options during the offseason.
If Brown is bought out he would be an attractive target for contenders who could sign him without giving up assets.
Another scenario is that Brown’s $23 million contract could be part of a larger three team deal. Doug Smith of The Star talked about how the Raptors could be facilitators in a potential Jimmy Butler trade.
Chris Boucher linked to Spurs & Nuggets
Another hot trade commodity from the Toronto Raptors at this year’s trade deadline is Chris Boucher.
The forward has been linked to the San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets by Matt Moore of FanSided.
