The Toronto Raptors could be busy leading up to the Feb. 6 trade deadline.
They have veteran pieces on their roster who they could look to move for draft capital.
It’s clear at 7-25 the Raptors have their sights set on the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft and they could look to stash some more draft picks through deals.
The way the trade market has been looking, second-round draft compensation seems to be the standard for role players.
NBA insider Marc Stein revealed Raptors’ veterans Kelly Olynyk and Bruce Brown’s expected asking price ahead of the trade deadline which is believed to be second-round picks:
“Other veterans believed to be available for second-round draft compensation with 39 days to go until the trade deadline include Valančiūnas and Brogdon, Toronto’s Kelly Olynyk and Bruce Brown and Utah’s Jordan Clarkson.”
Olynyk agreed on a two-year, $26.25 million extension with the Raptors back in March. Given how the Raptors are already thin with their frontcourt depth, perhaps they would be reluctant to move him just yet.
Meanwhile, Brown is the name that continues to pop up in trade rumors. Brown has been out the entire season healing from his offseason knee surgery, but he finally made his long awaited season debut on Dec. 29 against the Atlanta Hawks. The Raptors were reportedly looking for a first-round pick for Brown at last season’s deadline but were unable to receive that. Given how Brown is fresh off knee surgery and hasn’t played much, it’s hard to believe the Raptors will be able to get a first for him this time around unless he significantly restores his trade value in the next month.
With how the trade market is shaping up, the Raptors might have to stack up on second-round picks similarly to what the Brooklyn Nets have been doing in their most recent deals.
