Bruce Brown is eager to return to aciton.
The 28-year-old had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in later September, which has kept him sidelined for the entire season thus far.
Brown remains out and there is no official update for his return, but he was a full participant in the team’s practice on Nov. 20. He’s going to need some additional ramp-up before he’s cleared to make his season debut, per TSN’s Josh Lewenberg.
Brown’s future with the team is uncertain and there was even talk about him not looking like his old self on the court while he started his Raptors tenure.
Brown explained why he didn’t have that energy, via Sportsnet’s Savanna Hamilton.
“Last year I didn’t look really engaged or not a lot of energy like I [had] on previous teams. It’s just because I was playing on one leg. So I want that to be addressed because I know a lot of fans didn’t think I played with a lot of energy and I didn’t want to be here,” Brown said. “That’s what I’ve seen on social media. But I do want to be here. I want to play with these guys… I was literally playing on one leg so it was tough for me mentally – that I couldn’t move the way I wanted to.”
Brown was asked why he didn’t stop to evaluate his knee sooner, but injuries made that a tough decision to make.
“We had so many guys out. That’s just not how I’m built. Like if I can go out there and play, I can go out there and play. So if I can push through it- it was tough – [and] obviously it didn’t look good some of the times. I didn’t perform the way I was supposed to,” Brown said.
Brown is still a quality player and him at full health will surely help the Raptors and streghten their second unit. He was a vital piece on the Denver Nuggets bench when they won the NBA title in 2022.
“Just wait and see. I’m ready to hoop,” Brown said.
The Raptors will begin a four-game roadtrip on Nov. 24 so it’s unlikely that he will be cleared for that. However, with how things seem to be progressing Raptors fans could see Brown back on the court soon.
