Gradey Dick is having a terrific start to his sophomore season.
He’s averaging 21.0 points over the first seven games which leads all sophomore players. Dick has made a three-pointer in 16 straight games which is the longest Raptors active streak.
Over his last 5 games in particular, the 20-year-old is averaging 24.6 points on 49 percent shooting from the field, 39 percent shooting from deep and 90 percent shooting from the free throw line. While hauling in 3.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 steals.
Before the game against the Nuggets, Dick caught up with reporters in Denver and talked about what has been working for him so far:
“Just taking what the defense is giving me, based off them it’s how I’m going to attack differently on offense but on the defensive side I feel like I talked about it a couple of times of just having that start of my games where I’m talking more on defense and as a team when we have more energy on that it kind of helps us going into offense.”
Another young Raptors player who has been impressive to start the season is Ochai Agbaji. He has been thrusted into the Raptors starting lineup with the handful of injuries the team has dealt with. Agbaji has made the most out of this opportunity averaging 12.7 points and 4.7 rebounds on an impressive 59 percent shooting from the field and 45.5 percent shooting from three.
Dick and Agbaji have been working with each other a lot this past year and Dick talked about how the two have been helping each other out:
“We push each other every single day, we did different shooting workouts, competitions, one-on-ones at the end so I feel like being in that area going every single day and pushing each other and still giving each other advice has been really good for both of us.”
The former Kansas Jayhawks have been two big bright spots for the Raptors despite their 2-5 record. Particularly Dick, who has taken his game to another level.
