The Toronto Raptors fought hard and outplayed the Denver Nuggets through 3 and a half quarter, but fell short in overtime 127-125.
It appeared the Raptors were going to pick up a massive win over the Nuggets, but they couldn’t hold on.
The Nuggets closed out regulation on a 13-3 run and the Raptors did not score a basket in the final 2:17 of the fourth quarter.
Scottie Barnes left the game late in the fourth with an eye injury after taking an elbow from Nikola Jokic. He did not return.
Scottie Barnes masterclass
Barnes dominated against the Nuggets. He was aggressive from the jump and did a great job setting up his teammates. He was also very active on defense. Barnes finished the game with 21 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. Unfortunately, Barnes’ night was cut short after getting a vicious elbow from Jokic to the right eye. Barnes was in clear discomfort and immediately headed to the locker room. The Raptors could’ve used their young star down the stretch. Barnes is still being evaluated by the medical staff and there is no further update at the moment, according to Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic.
RJ Barrett looks sharp in return
This was Barrett’s regular-season debut after he returned from an AC join sprain he suffered in the preseason. Barrett did not miss a beat. He came out firing taking 5 shots in 3 minutes. He hit a corner triple, had a few layups and a dunk. Barrett finished the game with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Barrett went for a pull-up game-winning three late in overtime with the Raptors down two but missed.
Ochai Agbaji continues to impress
With Barrett returning to the starting lineup, Agbaji headed back to the bench. He had played well as the Raptors starter in the team’s first three games. Agbaji continued his hot play scoring 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field and 2-for-5 shooting from three in 29 minutes of action. The 24-year-old continues to shoot the ball well and is giving the Raptors solid consistency.
Next on tap
The Raptors will have to quickly forget about this tough loss as they head to Charlotte to take on the Hornets on Oct. 30.
