Kyle Kuzma could be on the move.
Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints believes the Washington Wizards could trade him before next season.
He mentions the Toronto Raptors as a team to keep an eye on regarding Kuzma:
“The Toronto Raptors are another team to keep an eye on regarding Kuzma as they look to move swingman Bruce Brown this offseason. Masai Ujiri and the Raptors’ front office have always made their intentions of retooling their roster instead of rebuilding it prominent. Going out and bringing in Kuzma to pair with Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett would certainly reflect this notion.”
Kuzma is set to make $23 million next season. He’s got three more years left on his current contract.
The Raptors have until June 29th to pick up Bruce Brown’s team option as he is set to earn $23 million next season as well.
Doug Smith of the Toronto Star first reported the Raptors are likely to pick up the option, then turn around and trade the 27-year-old instead of waiting until the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline.
A Brown for Kuzma trade works, but it would only make sense if the Raptors are trying to win now.
However, the Raptors have made it clear that they are rebuilding. Therefore, taking on Kuzma’s contract who turns 29 this summer wouldn’t fit that timeline.
The Raptors reportedly tried to trade Brown at the 2023 NBA Trade Deadline and were seeking a first-round pick in return. It will be interesting to see if Toronto still prioritizes trying to get draft compensation for Brown as they look to trade him this offseason.
Raptors to workout Zach Edey
The Raptors announced they will be hosting pre-draft workouts on June 4, headlined by Canadian big man Zach Edey.
Edey will be joined by fellow Canadians Tyrese Samuel, Emanuel Miller, Jahmir Young, Joseph Girard III and Keion Brooks Jr.
