Brown Brown Jr. was acquired by the Toronto Raptors in the trade that sent Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers.
Upon arriving to Toronto, it was highly speculated that Brown was going to be traded before the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
He was the hottest name floating around and he was constantly in the rumor mill.
However, once the trade deadline passed the 27-year-old still remained a member of the Raptors.
According to Raptors General Manger Bobby Webster, the Raptors did not get the offers they wanted for Brown.
Webster also praised him for his professionalism and toughness and said that there is options with Brown this summer.
Brown was asked if he is relived to be staying put with the Raptors via Postmedia:
“Yes, 100%. Get that done, going to be here the rest of the year, get to know my teammates more. It’s like a weight off my shoulders. I can be just chill. Obviously a lot going on the last two weeks — maybe I leave, maybe I don’t — so, I’m glad that’s over.”
Brown seems content to stay with the Raptors for now. He is currently slated as the Raptors sixth man. Brown’s unique skillset makes him a nice contributor for Toronto on both ends of the court.
Brown remains a Raptor for the rest of this season and then Toronto will have options on what they want to do with him over the long haul.
They can keep him or they can look to trade him around the NBA Draft or into the offseason.
Brown has a $23 million team option on his 2024-25 contract so it gives the Raptors some flexibility.
If Toronto does trade Brown, they will continue to seek a future first-round pick in return which was their asking price for him before the deadline.
VanVleet weights in on Raptors new roster
Former Raptor Fred VanVleet made his return to Toronto on Feb. 9. Although VanVleet did not play in the game, he received a warm ovation from the fans.
Before tipoff, VanVleet weighed in on the Raptors roster turnover and their current direction.
