Jordan Nwora has been a recent pleasant surprise for the Toronto Raptors.

The 25-year-old was sent to Toronto in the Pascal Siakam trade.

Nwora started his Raptors tenure with a few DNP’s and minutes in garbage time, but now he is showing that he is more than just a trade throw-in. Nwora can flat out hoop.

He has had two outstanding performances for the Raptors in back-to-back outings.

Nwora poured in 24 points on 7-16 shooting along with 6 assists and 9 rebounds against the Atlanta Hawks on Jan 28.

Then Nwora scored 17 points on 5-7 shooting from the field and 4-5 shooting from three in Chicago on Jan. 30.

Nwora has definitely earned himself more minutes for the rest of this season.

Nwora is from Buffalo. His father Alex is the coach at Erie Community College, where the Raptor used to have their early training camps.

According to Eric Koreen of The Athletic, Nwora considers himself a Raptors fan and he saw his first bit of NBA action during the NBA All-Star Weekend in Toronto in 2016. Nwora claims he would have been at the Raptor championship parade in 2019 had he not been playing for Louisville at the time.

Talk about a full circle moment for Nwora. If he continues to play this well for Toronto, he may end up being a long-term bench piece for the franchise.

Raptors injury update

The Raptors have been shorthanded in their past couple of games. However, they could be getting some key players back soon.

Jakob Poeltl and Immanuel Quickley practiced in full on Feb. 1 for the Raptors, according to Eric Koreen of The Athletic.

The Raptors have not had Poeltl for over three weeks. He has been out with a left ankle sprain he suffered on Jan. 7.

Quickley has been dealing with a right thigh contusion that has seen him miss three straight games. He seems close to returning.

RJ Barrett has also been out. He has yet to be cleared as he continues to battle left knee swelling. He is likely going to miss the Raptors matchup against the Houston Rockets.

Hopefully, the Raptors can get their starters back in the lineup soon.
