Bruce Brown of the Toronto Raptors is becoming more and more of a hot commodity.
He was acquired in the blockbuster trade for Pascal Siakam.
It became uncertain if Brown would stay in Toronto for the foreseeable future. The Raptors are embracing a rebuild and looking for more youthful players.
As the trade deadline approaches, a bunch of teams are expected to express interest in Brown. One of the teams being frequently mentioned is the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on NBA Today, the Lakers are interested in Brown and are trying to work out a deal with Toronto:
“Lakers will continue to be on the phone with Toronto between now and the trade deadline trying to see if there’s a way they can get Bruce Brown.”
The 27-year-old was an integral piece of the Denver Nuggets championship last year and makes sense for him to go on a contending team.
While L.A. has struggled this year, it is hard to count out a team with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Brown would certainly bring some edge to their team and it is much needed.
However, this deal may be contingent on Dejounte Murray, another name L.A. is linked to. The Raptors would want a first-round pick and the Lakers can offer one and a pick swap.
D’Angelo Russell would be a piece in this deal, however it’s unclear if Toronto would want him. The guard is averaging 27.2 points and 6.4 assists on 53.7% from 3-point range but does not fit the Raptors’ timeline.
Perhaps a third team would be needed in a Brown deal, similar to the Murray situation. Toronto would love another first-round pick, but taking back Russell will be a contingency.
Toronto seeking first-round pick and quality player for Bruce Brown
For the Raptors, who have accumulated assets from Siakam and O.G. Anunoby, why not get more?
Brown will certainly garner a lot of interest as the deadline approaches. Toronto is seeking a first-round pick and a quality player, which seems like a reasonable asking price.
