The Toronto Raptors are officially in a rebuild after trading both O.G. Anunoby and Pascal Siakam.
The team finally chose a direction and they are committed to building around Scottie Barnes.
The Raptors young core of Barnes, Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett aren’t going anywhere for a while. However, the rest of the Raptors roster could be on the trading block ahead of the Feb 8. trade deadline.
Toronto could look to have a full on fire sale and cash in on more future assets like draft picks.
One name that has come up is veteran Chris Boucher. Boucher is the only Raptors player remaining from the 2019 championship-winning team.
According to Sportsnet’s Blake Murphy, he said Chris Boucher is a player on the Raptors who is likely be traded by the trade deadline via The Raptors Show:
“Chris Boucher is going to have a new home at some point. I can tell you in fairly certain terms that’s being explored and will probably happen by February 8th.”
Boucher is 31-years-old and doesn’t fit Toronto’s new timeline. He is a veteran big man who can help a contending team from off the bench.
Boucher has played in 40 games this season and he is averaging 6.2 points and 4.0 rebounds in 14.2 minutes per contest.
Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported earlier this month that the Boston Celtics could use some frontcourt help and Boucher is someone they have liked for a while.
Toronto should have plenty of suitors for many veterans on their roster if they do go the fire sale route.
Toronto’s goal now should be to develop their young talent and acquire as many future assets as they can.
Plenty of Raptors players have value on open market
According to Shams Charania, many Raptors have value on the open market.
Charania mentioned newest Raptor Bruce Brown Jr., Gary Trent Jr. and Dennis Schroder as players who could be moved before the trade deadline.
