The Toronto Raptors have been making waves when it comes to the Damian Lillard sweepstakes.
Sportsnet’s Michael Grange confirmed the Raptors interest in Lillard and now ESPN’s Marc Spears has come out with an important update.
Marc Spears appeared on NBA Today. He said that he talked to two really high ranking team executives and they said that Toronto is the frontrunner when it comes to acquiring Lillard:

Spears says that things are quiet with the Miami Heat right now and the Portland Trail Blazers are continuing to talk to other teams. He says the hottest name he’s hearing are the Raptors.
Now Spears does say that ‘no trade is imminent’ but confirms the Raptors interest in Lillard.
Spears does say that if Lillard goes to Toronto, he would show up and play. He questioned if Lillard would like being in Toronto and then joked that Drake would need to get in his ear.
With things being quiet, Spears says Toronto could sneak in there.
Will the Raptors make a big splash?
Masai Ujiri and the Raptors are no strangers when it comes to striking a deal for a big time player. This Damian Lillard situation is beginning to feel a lot like the Kawhi situation that took place in summer 2018. The Raptors took a gamble then and it resulted in their lone championship.
If the Raptors trade for Lillard it would likely be a trade package centered around OG Anunoby. The Raptors have been unwilling to part ways with Scottie Barnes.
With the trade rumors now swinging in favor of the Raptors, it’ll be interesting to see if Masai Ujiri gets a deal done soon.
