Cade Cunningham poured in 28 points, and the Detroit Pistons closed out the pre–All-Star break schedule with a convincing 113-95 win over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night.
Despite being without suspended big men Isaiah Stewart and Jalen Duren, Detroit controlled the game from the opening tip. The pair began serving league-issued suspensions earlier in the day for their involvement in a scuffle during Monday’s win in Charlotte.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
Paul Reed stepped into a larger role and delivered early, scoring 16 of his 22 points in the first quarter while hitting all seven of his shot attempts in the period. He opened the game with a 3-pointer as Detroit jumped ahead and never looked back.
The Eastern Conference-leading Pistons have now won six of their last seven games and improved to an impressive 18-7 on the road. The victory also marked their seventh straight win over Toronto.
Balanced Attack for Detroit
Duncan Robinson added 13 points, and Tobias Harris chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds. Cunningham filled out the stat sheet with seven rebounds and nine assists, while matching a season best by hitting six 3-pointers (6-for-11 from beyond the arc).
Detroit dominated inside, outscoring Toronto 50-34 in the paint and winning the rebounding battle 46-35.
Raptors Struggle to Keep Pace
Immanuel Quickley led Toronto with 18 points, while Scottie Barnes scored 17. RJ Barrett added 16 points, and Brandon Ingram contributed 13.
Jakob Poeltl returned after missing 24 games due to a lower back issue, finishing with nine points and six rebounds in 20 minutes.
