Tyrese Maxey erupted for 33 points and Joel Embiid added 27 as the Philadelphia 76ers overwhelmed the Toronto Raptors with an 80-point first half on the way to a 115-102 victory Monday night.
Philadelphia rebounded from Sunday’s overtime loss to Toronto by winning for the sixth time in eight games. VJ Edgecombe and Paul George chipped in 15 points apiece as both Embiid and George returned to the lineup after sitting out the previous night.
The 76ers’ first-half onslaught was the most Toronto has allowed this season. Philadelphia shot a scorching 27-of-37 from the floor before halftime, buried 13 of 20 shots from beyond the arc, and went a perfect 13-for-13 at the free-throw line.
Maxey set the tone early, scoring 18 points in the opening quarter to help the 76ers race to a 45-28 lead. After struggling from deep the night before, Philadelphia flipped the script by hitting seven of its first eight 3-point attempts and opening the second quarter with four straight makes.
Immanuel Quickley led Toronto with 18 points. Brandon Ingram posted 17 points and 10 rebounds in his return from a sore right thumb, while Scottie Barnes added 15 points after being named Eastern Conference Player of the Week earlier in the day.
The Raptors faithful got a nostalgic moment late in the fourth quarter when chants of “We want Lowry!” rang out and former Toronto star Kyle Lowry checked in for Maxey, drawing a standing ovation. Lowry, a key figure in the Raptors’ 2019 championship run, missed all three of his shot attempts.
Philadelphia’s largest advantage came midway through the third quarter when an Edgecombe 3-pointer pushed the lead to 87-54.
