Former Raptors Center Precious Achiuwa Is Still Without NBA Job

Former Toronto Raptors center Precious Achiuwa is still looking for a new team.

The 25-year-old entered the 2025 offseason as an unrestricted free agent and he still remains unsigned by any NBA team.

He last played for the New York Knicks, but the Knicks have essentially moved on from him.

It’s not like Achiuwa had a bad tenure in New York. He actually carved himself a nice role in the Knicks system from off the bench. He played in 24.2 minutes per game in 2023-24 and this past season he played in 20.5 minutes per game while averaging 6.6 points and 5.6 rebounds.

Achiuwa has been in the league for five seasons and it would be surprising if he doesn’t land on a team before the start of the new season. He can still be picked up by a team that needs some big man depth like the Golden State Warriors or Boston Celtics.

However, it is a shame to see how Achiuwa’s career has panned out since his days with the Raptors.

In Toronto, Achiuwa was expected to be apart of the Raptors young core moving forward. Many fans had high hopes for him as he played alongside players like Scottie Barnes, O.G. Anunoby, Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam.

He did have his moments in Toronto like earning a starting role and he was named to the 2022 Rising Stars Game. However, he just never became the breakout player many people thought he would become once the Raptors traded for him.

At this stage of his career, Achiuwa will be more of a third string center rather than a true backup.

He was never able to develop a consistent enough outside shot and he was also too careless with the basketball to stay on the floor.

Now, Achiuwa remains on the outside looking in waiting for his next opportunity.

Vince Carter to join Raptors broadcasts during 2025-2026 NBA season

Vince Carter will be joining the Sportsnet broadcast team once again next season, returning as a part-time color commentator.
