RJ Barrett could be a trade candidate this summer.
Ever since the Toronto Raptors traded for Brandon Ingram, there has been a lot of speculation about if the Raptors will move the 25-year-old.
According to HoopsHype Michael Scotto, the Raptors are gauging the trade market on Barrett:
“Toronto has also continued to gauge the trade market on RJ Barrett, league sources told HoopsHype. Barrett, who’s owed $57.32 million over the next two seasons, averaged a career-high 21.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.”
Barrett is coming off a career year with the Raptors. He averaged a career-high in points (21.1), rebounds (6.3) and assists (5.4). He led the team in scoring and looked comfortable in the offense.
However, his fit with Brandon Ingram and Scottie Barnes is questionable due to his inconsistent outside shooting.
Barrett is set to make $27.7 million this season and $29.6 million in 2026-27. He’s extension-eligible this summer. The Raptors could look to move him for an upgrade, sell him for more depth or use him to acquire a player who’s a better fit in the team’s starting lineup.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Raptors “would be willing to part with either Barrett and Immanuel Quickley for a significant roster upgrade.”
The Raptors currently have $7.7 million in first-apron space and hold the 9th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. They are very close to the NBA’s luxury tax line, so trading Barrett could help them create financial flexibility as well.
If the Raptors do trade Barrett it will be interesting to see what they get in return.
