The Toronto Raptors have officially wrapped up their 30th NBA season, closing the 2024-25 campaign with a 30-52 record. This placed them 11th in the Eastern Conference and third in the Atlantic Division. The Raptors are outside the playoff picture after a year marked by injuries, roster changes, and a renewed focus on developing young talent. Their attention now turns to the NBA Draft and the franchise’s future. For fans and bettors, the Raptors’ longshot odds to win the 2025 NBA title, currently set at +200,000, reflect the rebuilding phase the team is in, making them one of the least favored teams in the league for championship contention.

The Raptors’ current status as a rebuilding team has them as long shots in future markets, according to Online Betting Canada. Still, it is an intriguing option for player props and game-specific wagers. The legalization of single-game sports betting in Canada has fueled a surge in NBA wagering, with fans able to access a variety of bets, including moneylines, point spreads, and player performance props. While betting on the Raptors to win the championship may not be a prudent choice given their odds, savvy bettors can find value in individual matchups, especially as young players like Barnes and Walter continue to develop and potentially outperform expectations.

Brandon Ingram

Despite the disappointing win-loss record, the Raptors’ season was not without its bright spots and intriguing storylines. The franchise boldly acquired Brandon Ingram at the trade deadline, signaling a commitment to adding star power and offensive versatility. Unfortunately, Ingram was sidelined with a left ankle injury and never suited up for Toronto during the 2024-25 season, appearing in only 18 games before being shut down for the year. He received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection to aid his recovery, and the organization remains optimistic that he will be fully healthy and ready to contribute when training camp opens next season. Once he’s back on the court, Ingram’s arrival is expected to significantly boost the Raptors’ offense, which struggled to find consistency throughout the year.

Team Chemistry

One of the central themes of the Raptors’ 30th anniversary season was developing young talent and cultivating team chemistry. Scottie Barnes continued his ascent as the team’s focal point, averaging nearly 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists per game over 65 appearances. Barnes’ leadership on and off the court was evident, as he took on a more vocal role and fostered camaraderie among teammates through team dinners and community initiatives. The emergence of rookies Jamal Shead and Ja’Kobe Walter also provided hope for the future. Shead, acquired in a draft-night trade, brought energy and playmaking to the backcourt. At the same time, Walter, despite early-season injuries, showcased his potential as a 3-and-D wing, averaging close to 10 points and shooting nearly 38 percent from three-point range over his last 10 games.

Veteran presence remained important for the Raptors, with Garrett Temple, at age 39, serving as a mentor and locker room leader. Despite his advanced age for an NBA player, Temple’s professionalism and connection with younger players have made him a candidate for re-signing in the offseason. The blend of youth and experience was a defining characteristic of the roster, even if it did not translate into immediate success in the standings.

The Raptors Own Their Lottery Pick

From a roster management perspective, the Raptors’ draft positioning became a focal point as the season wound down. Toronto secured the seventh-best odds in the upcoming NBA Draft Lottery, giving them a 7.5 percent chance at landing the first overall pick and a nearly one-in-three shot of moving into the top four. While the team’s late-season wins may have cost them slightly better lottery odds, retaining their pick is a positive outcome compared to last year, when protections led to its conveyance elsewhere. This upcoming draft represents a crucial opportunity for the Raptors to add another foundational piece alongside Barnes and Ingram.

Next Season Expectations

The Raptors’ offseason will center on player development, health, and strategic additions. Head coach Darko Rajaković has emphasized the importance of balancing rest and training, with plans for off-site team-building activities similar to last year’s retreat in Spain. Most of the coaching staff and core players are under contract for next season, providing some stability as the team continues its rebuild. However, the future of Chris Boucher, whose contract is expiring and who saw limited action this year, remains uncertain. The 2024-25 season may not have delivered playoff basketball to Toronto, but it has set the stage for a pivotal summer and an important draft. With a mix of young talent, the anticipated debut of Brandon Ingram, and a passionate fan base, the Raptors remain a team to watch, not just for their on-court growth but also as a unique option for those exploring online betting in Canada. As the franchise enters its next chapter, optimism persists that brighter days are ahead for basketball in Toronto.
