The Toronto Raptors’ regular season is winding down and then their focus shifts to the 2025 NBA Draft.
When it became evident that a Play-In Tournament spot was not obtainable, Toronto began trying to tank the rest of their season.
However, the Raptors have the easiest schedule remaining, which has made things messy. So, wins have been more frequent than expected.
With that, Toronto will presumably not be picking within the top-five this summer. Although, it does not mean that they cannot bring in another valuable prospect into their organization.
In CBS Sports’ latest mock draft by Adam Finkelstein, he projects the Raptors selecting Illinois’ Kasparas Jakucionis at No. 7.
Originally from Lithuania, Jakucionis is a multi-faceted guard who can do a little bit of everything.
The 6’6″ guard averaged 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists as a freshman. So, he can do a bit of everything on the court as a taller point guard.
But, with the edition of Brandon Ingram, another ball dominant player, this pick could be a bit redundant. In addition to 3-point percent steadily dropping throughout the college season.
Obviously, it does not mean that Jakucionis cannot adjust to NBA-level shooting, but it will presumably take time. However, his ability to self-create could be an extremely valuable skillset off the bench.
Toronto’s bench production has been an issue this year, so bringing in a player that is capable of getting his own would be welcomed.
Kasparas Jakucionis is being connected with the Raptors
As mentioned, the regular season is winding down for teams not expected to make a Play-In Tournament push, like the Raptors.
Meaning that mock drafts are beginning to ramp up as analysts begin to ponder team needs. That being said, Kasparas Jakucionis is frequently being linked to Toronto in these mocks.
Gilbert McGregor of The Sporting News released a mock draft of his own and he projected Jakucionis going to the Raptors at No. 7 as well.
