The Toronto Raptors can’t catch a break when it comes to injuries.
Raptors young center Ulrich Chomche will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a partial MCL tear in his right knee, TSN’s Josh Lewenberg reported.
The Raptors are targeting Summer League for Chomche’s return to the court.
This is unfortunate news for the NBA’s youngest player who has shown significant signs of progress in his first season.
The Raptors selected Chomche with the 57th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft and he was signed to a two-year, two-way contract.
The 19-year-old Cameroonian center spent most of the season in the G League, appearing in 33 games with Raptors 905. He averaged 7.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.9 blocks in 23.8 minutes per game while shooting 54.4 percent from the field.
Chomche played 7 games with the Raptors. He recently played 12 minutes against Joel Embiid in a Raptors win over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Chomche was expected to get more playing time in the Raptors last 27 games of the season with Toronto at the bottom of the standings.
Now with Chomche sidelined, the Raptors frontcourt depth is very thin. The Raptors traded Kelly Olynyk to the New Orleans Pelicans at the trade deadline and have Orlando Robinson as the only true center behind Jakob Poeltl who remains sidelined. Jonathan Mogbo has stepped in as the Raptors starting center with Poeltl out.
Raptors sign Jared Rhoden to a 10-day contract
The Toronto Raptors have signed Jared Rhoden to a 10-day contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Rhoden has averaged 16.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 20 G League games this season. He shot 50.4 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from three-point range.
Rhoden can be signed to one more 10-day contract before the Raptors must either sign him to a standard deal or a two-way contract.
