The Toronto Raptors have announced they have waived James Wiseman, per ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
The Raptors had acquired Wiseman and cash from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for a top-55 protected second-round pick. Wiseman had a team option for next season and he is currently out for this season with a torn Achilles .
After waiving Wiseman, the Raptors now have 2 open roster spots. Orlando Robinson’s second 10-day contract is set to expire but he could get one of those open spots with how depleted the Raptors frontcourt depth is with Kelly Olynyk on his way to New Orleans and Jakob Poeltl hurt. The Raptors could use that other roster spot to convert Jamison Battle’s two-way deal.
Wiseman was the no. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He came into the league with high expectations, but unfortunately injuries have derailed his career.
In 148 career games with the Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons and Pacers, the 23-year-old has averaged 9.1 points and 5.6 rebounds.
