RJ Barrett has entered concussion protocol and he will be out for the Toronto Raptors matchup against the New York Knicks, the team announced.

Barrett slammed his head against the court after a hard fall during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers. The 24-year-old forward stayed down for an entire possession before play was stopped. He was then helped to his feet. The Raptors medical staff gave Barrett the green light and he remained in the game.

“Did you see the hole that he made [in the court]? He’s got a pretty strong head. “He wanted to finish the game. He felt good. He didn’t have any problems,” Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic said postgame, via Sports Illustrated’s Aaron Rose.

Barrett was not initially listed on the Raptors injury report against the Knicks. He will now have to be fully cleared before returning to action. Barrett seemed fine so it doesn’t seem like this will keep him out for long. This will be the first time in Barrett’s NBA career that he has been out due to a concussion.

If Barrett remains out, Ochai Agbaji is likely to take his spot in the starting lineup.

Plan ahead of trade deadline revealed

The likeliest course of action the Toronto Raptors will take leading into the Feb. 6 trade deadline is trying to get involved in a multi-team Jimmy Butler trade, per TSN’s Josh Lewenberg.
