Scottie Barnes has been awarded for his impressive play.
The Toronto Raptors’ forward has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the NBA announced on Monday. Barnes wins player of the week honors (Jan. 20-26) for the first time in his career.
The 23-year-old helped the Raptors to a perfect 3-0 record, while averaging team-highs of 22.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.7 steals in 35 minutes of action. He shot 46.8 percent from the field and recorded two double-doubles, while scoring 20+ points twice.
Barnes led the Raptors to victory against the Orlando Magic on Jan. 21 as he put up 17 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. He followed that up with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in the Raptors’ win over the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 23. He then capped the week with 24 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists leading the Raptors to victory once again over the Hawks on Jan. 25.
Since coming back from injury, Barnes has hit his stride. He is currently averaging career-highs of 20.1 points, 6.5 assists and 1.5 steals, along with 8.1 rebounds in 32 games this season.
Barnes has scored 20+ points in 16 games, 30+ points in 3 games and has recorded 14 double-doubles.
He is also one of just four players in the league and only player in the Eastern Conference who is currently putting up 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
Barnes is the 12th player in franchise history to obtain this honor, joining DeMar DeRozan x10, Vince Carter x7, Chris Bosh x7, Kyle Lowry x5, Pascal Siakam x5, Kawhi Leonard x2, Jalen Rose, Mike James, Lou Williams, Norman Powell and Fred VanVleet.
