The Feb. 6 trade deadline is a few weeks away for the Toronto Raptors and they are expected to be in many conversations leading up to it.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Raptors are going to be willing to part ways with their pieces.
One player being Bruce Brown, who is a swiss army knife and a championship-caliber role player.
Recently returning from a nagging knee issue, Brown is beginning to find his rhythm once again.
Currently, the 6’4″ guard is averaging 7.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists on 43.3 percent shooting from the field and 31.3 percent shooting from three through nine games.
However, he put up an impressive 17 points and 6 rebounds on against the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday night. He drilled two threes, which bodes well for his confidence moving forward.
Although, the Raptors are expected to shop the veteran guard. Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz proposed a hypothetical trade between the Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto.
Memphis would acquire Brown and Davion Mitchell. While, the Raptors would get Luke Kennard, Brandon Clarke, John Konchar and 2026 second-round pick (via Los Angeles Clippers).
The Grizzlies tried to package Kennard and Konchar to acquire Dorian Finney-Smith before the Los Angeles Lakers acquired him. So, Toronto would have to be okay with taking back long-term money in Konchar and Clarke with two-years remaining.
Kennard on the other hand is an expiring contract. Clarke would be an intriguing frontcourt addition for the Raptors due to his energy and athleticism.
While Brown was viewed as damaged goods up till his return, Toronto needs to truly evaluate their options as Brown is on an expiring deal.
Opposing general managers are going to try to acquire the one-time NBA champion on a discount due to his injury history.
B/R proposes hypothetical Raptors trade with Jakob Poeltl going to Warriors
Another intriguing trade candidate is Jakob Poeltl, who is having a career-year. Bleacher Report proposed another trade with the Raptors that involved Poeltl being moved to the Golden State Warriors.
