Scottie Barnes’ ankle injury doesn’t appear too serious.
The Toronto Raptors star forward was seen wearing a walking boot and was moving without restriction on Sunday. Barnes suffered a right ankle injury against the New York Knicks on Dec. 9.
“He did not go in a live part of the practice with the team, but he was part of the non-contact (activities) with the team, and he also did his full workout with his assistant coach,” Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic told reporters.
An initial report from ESPN’s Shams Charania indicated that Barnes would miss “several weeks,” but the Raptors will provide a further update next week.
Meanwhile, Bruce Brown who has not played all season is close to making a return.
Brown who had offseason knee surgery took part in practice on Sunday and “looked pretty good,” according to Rajakovic. However, there is still no timetable for his return. Brown remains day-to-day as he continues to ramp up. “It’ll come down to reconditioning and when he feels fully comfortable,” Rajakovic said.
Immanuel Quickley isn’t ready for full practice as he continues to recover from his UCL sprain. Quickley still needs a few more weeks of recovery before ramping up for game action. However, his progress is still encouraging as the Raptors look to survive this rough patch of injuries.
The Raptors will host the Chicago Bulls at Scotiabank Arena on Dec. 16.
Raptors face key decisions as unofficial start of trade season begins
Dec. 15 means the unofficial start of NBA trade season. One of the teams that are expected to be busy up until the trade deadline are the Toronto Raptors.
Now in their first full season under a rebuild, Toronto still possesses veteran talent that can warrant a decent return.
