Toronto Raptors first-round pick Ja’Kobe Walter was impressive with the Raptors 905 in their home opener.

Walter is recovering from an AC joint injury, in which he re-injured after playing the Sacramento Kings on Nov. 6. So, it has not been an ideal start to the season for the rookie.

As he looks to return to action, Toronto assigned him to their G League affiliate to get back into game shape.

The 905 took on the Long Island Nets, which Walter dropped a team-high 20 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 dime.

He shot 8-for-15 from the field and 3-of-8 from three-point range in 20 minutes of action:

There is no need to rush Walter back as Toronto has been able to deal with him being out. Although, it would be nice to get him reps with the big club and see what he can do.

However, this is the right approach to give him time to play ample amount of G League games before joining the Raptors.

All in all, it is promising to see this kind of scoring output from the former Baylor Golden Bear. The Raptors are hoping Walter can become a steady, efficient scoring guard from off the bench.

Raptors share update on rookie Ja’Kobe Walter

It stings for a rookie to already re-aggravate an injury this early into the season. But, when that happens it usually does not bode well in terms of a quick recovery period.

When Ja’Kobe Walter unfortunately sprained his AC joint again, the Raptors announced that the 20-year-old would be sidelined indefinitely.
