Saturday was an emotional day for the Toronto Raptors organization with Vince Carter’s jersey retirement ceremony.

Former Raptor DeMar DeRozan was in attendance as a member of the Sacramento Kings. With Carter being the first retired number in franchise history, this ceremony was monumental.

While Carter is considered one of, if not the greatest Raptor of all time, DeRozan is first in many categories for the organization.

Toronto will always be a special place for DeRozan. So, being there to witness Carter’s jersey retirement must have been an emotional experience.

DeRozan spoke about the ceremony, expressing gratitude for Carter getting his flowers, via Josh Lewenberg of TSN:

“To see things come full circle, to be here to witness his incredible night, it’s a surreal moment…It’s special. I’m more than happy that I just got the opportunity to witness it and feel the energy…You just wanted to be able to see him get his flowers.”

It feels like Carter was the first domino to fall with Kyle Lowry and DeRozan seemingly up next. However, humbly, the Kings forward tries not to think about it, via Lewenberg:

“Nah. It’s crazy because I try not to think about it. It’s cool to see Vince go up and without a doubt Kyle is going to be up there…I’m always humbled, just the thought of that even being an opportunity.”

Despite being noble about his own jersey retirement ceremony one day, it feels right to envision DeRozan up there in the rafters.

To have Carter, Lowry and DeRozan up in Scotiabank Arena rafters solidifies what that trio has done to push along the Raptors franchise in its 30 year history.

DeMar DeRozan responds to Drake’s cheap shot

Although most Raptors fans would have no issue with DeMar DeRozan getting his jersey retired, their most famous fan, Drake seems to disagree.

The iconic rapper appeared on TSN’s broadcast on Saturday and fired some criticism DeRozan’s way. After the game, the Kings forward responded to those comments.
