The Toronto Raptors will be without Scottie Barnes for the next couple of weeks.
The 23-year-old has been diagnosed with a right orbital fracture and will miss at least 3 weeks before getting reevaluated, according to TSN’s Josh Lewenberg.
Barnes was off to a great start this season after having his All-Star campaign cut short due to injury. The Raptors will now be undermanned as they take on the league’s toughest early-season schedule.
With this timeline, Barnes will miss at least 11 games. Nine of those 11 games come against teams that made the playoffs last season and 7 of them will be on the road. Barnes, Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett haven’t played together since March. 1 and will now have to wait even longer to share the court.
Barnes was injured on a play late in the fourth quarter against the Denver Nuggets. He was inadvertently elbowed in the face by Nikola Jokic as both players went for a rebound. Barnes was in immediate pain and had to be helped to the Raptors bench, before heading to the locker room. He did not return to the game.
The Raptors haven’t been able to catch a break when it comes to injuries. Barrett had suffered an AC joint sprain that he returned from, while Quickley suffered a pelvic injury that has kept him sidelined. The team has also been without Kelly Olynyk who’s dealing with a lingering back injury and Bruce Brown who’s recovering from offseason knee surgery.
If things continue to unravel for this team, this may end up being another lost season for Toronto.
