The Toronto Raptors have some players nearing a return.
RJ Barrett and Ja’Kobe Walter are progressing forward as both players returned to practice on Monday.
However, neither player has been cleared for contact as they are both recovering from their AC joint injuries.
Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic said Barrett is considered “day-to-day.” It seems unlikely that he will suit up for the Raptors regular season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Oct. 23. However, Barrett shouldn’t miss too much time.
Walter is behind Barrett in terms of returning to action. Rajakovic said that Walter is a week to 10 days behind Barrett.
Kelly Olynyk did not practice Monday as he is dealing with a back injury. His status for Wednesday’s game is unknown at the moment.
Bruce Brown Jr. was seen doing some light shooting at practice. Rajakovic said that he has gone from doing spot-up shooting to some light movement.
If Barrett isn’t ready for the start of the season, the Raptors will likely turn to Ochai Agbaji as his temporary replacement in the starting lineup alongside Gradey Dick, Scottie Barnes, Immanuel Quickley and Jakob Poeltl.
The Raptors have one of the toughest schedules in the league to start, so it will be important for them to get key players back from injury sooner rather than later.
Toronto will provide another injury update closer to tipoff against the Cavaliers.
Raptors cut three players, convert Jamison Battle to two-way deal
The Toronto Raptors announced their final roster cuts ahead of the 2024-25 regular season.
The Raptors waived guards Jahmi’us Ramsey and Jared Rhoden, along with centre Branden Carlson.
Toronto also converted Jamison Battle’s Exhibit 10 contract into a two-way deal that will allow the organization to keep his rights both with the Raptors and Raptors 905 this season, the team announced.
