The San Antonio Spurs have waived Malachi Flynn.
The former Toronto Raptors point guard failed to earn a spot on the Spurs roster and seems bound for the G League this season.
Flynn had signed an Exhibit 10 deal with San Antonio and will be assigned to the Austin Spurs for this season:

The Raptors drafted Flynn with the 29th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. The Raptors tried to make Flynn part of the rotation last season but he was never able to sustain consistency or carve out a role with the team. Toronto finally decided to part ways with the 26-year-old, sending him to the New York Knicks along with Precious Achiuwa and O.G. Anunoby for Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett.
Flynn had a brief stint with the Knicks before New York traded him to Detroit at last year’s trade deadline. Flynn appeared in 24 games for the Pistons before Detroit renounced his rights in this summer.
The 6-foot-1 point guard had one standout performance last season. He scored 50 points on 18-for 25 shooting off the bench against the Atlanta Hawks on April 3.
However, Flynn was never able to build momentum off that performance and did not find another opporunity this summer. He was unsigned for most of the offseason before the Spurs took a chance on him.
Flynn is now an NBA free agent and any team can sign him. However, if he doesn’t sign a contract, San Antonio will own his G League rights for the year.
For his career Flynn has averaged 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists on 38.7 percent shooting from the field and 33.4 percent shooting from three.
Raptors cut three players, convert Jamison Battle to two-way deal
The Raptors announced their final roster cuts ahead of the 2024-25 regular season.
The Raptors waived guards Jahmi’us Ramsey and Jared Rhoden, along with centre Branden Carlson.
Toronto also converted Jamison Battle’s Exhibit 10 contract into a two-way deal that will allow the organization to keep his rights both with the Raptors and Raptors 905 this season, the team announced.
