Javon Freeman-Liberty is headed to Chicago.
The former Toronto Raptors guard will reportedly sign a deal to join the Chicago Bulls this year, after parting ways with his Turkish team Manisa Basket, per Sportsnet’s Blake Murphy.
Freeman-Liberty grew up in Chicago and signed with the Bulls’ G League affiliate following the 2022 NBA Draft.
Unfortunately, Freeman-Liberty never developed into the playmaker and three-point shotmaker the Raptors were hoping he’d become.
However, the 6-foot-4 guard shined in the G League on the Raptors 905. He averaged 24.0 points, 4.2 assists and 6.8 rebounds per game.
The Raptors waived Freeman-Liberty in July. The 24-year-old will be joining a Bulls team that looks like it’s rebuilding. Chicago traded both Alex Caruso and DeMar DeRozan this summer and will probably look to shop Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic next. Chicago is expected to take a step back and will likely wind up just outside of the Play-In Tournament.
Hopefully, Freeman-Liberty can carve out a significant role with the Bulls. It’s unclear at the moment if Freeman-Liberty will be on the Bulls standard roster or will be given a chance on the Windy City Bulls in the G League.
