Scottie Barnes has joined the Toronto Raptors in Montreal.

The fourth-year player participated in training camp Saturday following a personal absence from the team, according to reporters.

Barnes practiced on Saturday, but he will not play in the Raptors first preseason game on Sunday against the Washington Wizards, per Sportsnet’s Michael Grange:

Barnes is expected to play later in the preseason and should be at full strength when the Raptors begin their regular season on Oct. 23 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Raptors will also be without Immanuel Quickley against the Wizards on Sunday. He continues to recover from a thumb sprain he suffered earlier in the offseason. He has not participated in training camp so far, but he shouldn’t experience any setbacks ahead of the season opener.

The Raptors will continue to be without Bruce Brown who is recovering from offseason knee surgery. His status has not been updated yet, but it’s likely he will miss the first few weeks of the season. There is no set timetable for his return.

Toronto’s first-round pick Ja’Kobe Walter remains out as well. He’s working his way back from a shoulder strain he suffered in offseason activities. He should be fully healthy for the start of the regular season.

The Raptors will take on the Wizards in Montreal at 7:30 p.m. ET to kickoff their preseason schedule. Toronto’s next game will take place on Oct. 11 in a rematch against the Wizards in Washington and in total the Raptors will play in five preseason games.

Scottie Barnes on embracing leadership role

Scottie Barnes will be entering his fourth season. He’s coming off his best year as a pro, averaging 19.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 60 games.

Since Barnes will be the player to help lead the Raptors during their rebuild, leadership will be something he needs to display. Barnes talked about how he wants to become more of a leader this season.
