RJ Barrett looks to have a big season with the Toronto Raptors.
In 32 games with the Raptors last season Barrett was impressive, averaging 21.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists.
The hot play for Barrett continued in the summer with Team Canada. He was arguably the team’s best player, helping lead Canada to a perfect 3-0 record in group play.
Unfortunately, Barrett’s Olympic run came to an end in the quarterfinals as France proved to to be too much for Canada.
Even though Canada didn’t medal, Barrett was still offered a great perspective when asked about his biggest takeaway from the Paris Olympics via Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun:
“Well, one, I feel very proud is the first thing. Something that hasn’t been done in 24 years, to be a part of that, I’m grateful for the country that I love so much. I’m very proud and very thank to have that honor. The felling of losing sucks. No one wants to lose, especially when you feel like you could’ve won, for sure, that you had a good chance. So, that feeling hurts, doesn’t go away. But I like to look on the bright side [how] we’ve come so far and we only have room to grow, as well as just the feeling of going and playing in a soccer stadium and there’s like 30,0000 people in there. That’s insane.. That’s a basketball memory that I’ll have forever – going out, playing for your country, 30,000 people watching in the stands and everybody back at home supporting. That’s something I’ll never take for granted.”
Not only has Barrett greatly improved since being traded to Toronto, but he’s become a much more mature player as well.
The 24-year-old has will be entering his sixth season in the league and still has a lot of room to grow. The biggest thing for Barrett will be consistency. He’s dominated in stretches, but they key will be if he can play at a high-level over the course of a season. However, based on his most recent play it looks like Barrett is ready for a breakout year.
Organization parts ways with Markquis Nowell
The Toronto Raptors organization is moving on from Markquis Nowell.
Nowell was traded in a four-team deal that’ll send his G League rights to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in return for Kennedy Chandler’s G League rights, Raptors 905 announced.
