The Toronto Raptors organization is moving on from Markquis Nowell.

The 5-foot-7 point guard was traded on Sept. 30 in a four-team deal that’ll send his G League rights to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in return for Kennedy Chandler’s G League rights, Raptors 905 announced.

The Raptors signed Nowell to a two-way contract following the 2023 NBA Draft. He appeared in one game for the Raptors, playing in just four minutes. He did record two points in a blowout loss against the Milwaukee Bucks last year.

Nowell played in 22 G League games for the 905 last season, averaging 14.4 points, 8.7 assists and 1.9 steals. He made the G League All-Star Game. Unfortunately, injuries slowed Nowell down and as a result Toronto had to part ways with him as he was unable to overcome a hamstring strain.

Meanwhile, the Raptors will now have Chandler’s G League rights for next year. Toronto signed Chandler to an Exhibit 10 deal and then waived him last month so that they could keep him with the 905.

Chandler appeared in 49 games for the Long Island Nets last year. The 5-foot-11 point guard averaged 13.9 points, 5.1 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game. He will take Nowell’s spot as the lead guard for the 905 this year. Along with Chandler, players such as Quincy Guerrier, Jamison Battle, Dylan Disu, Jared Rhoden, DJ Carton, Ulrich Chomche and Branden Carlson  should all get plenty of opportunities in the G League.

Raptors 905 will take on the Delaware Blue Coats in their season opener on Nov. 9.

Raptors officially unveil new purple jerseys for this season

The Toronto Raptors are bringing back purple. The Raptors have officially unveiled their “Classic Edition” throwback “Purple Fever” jerseys for this season.

The jerseys pay homage to their purple jerseys from the early 2000’s.
