Malachi Flynn was expected to have a prominent bench role last season for the Toronto Raptors.

But, that did not pan out as he struggled offensively and ultimately fell out of Toronto’s rotation.

When the Raptors needed to pick a direction, O.G. Anunoby and Flynn were traded to the New York Knicks to bring in Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett.

However, Flynn would then get shipped to the Detroit Pistons to finish the 2023-24 season. Notably, he dropped 50 points off the bench for Detroit on April 3 against the Atlanta Hawks.

Now, the former Raptor has signed a one-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs, via Shams Charania of The Athletic:

With Chris Paul going to San Antonio as well, Flynn provides a bit more depth at the point guard position.

Although, it remains to be seen on whether he will be given an opportunity with Stephon Castle, Tre Jones and Paul slotted for rotational minutes.

In 31 games with the Raptors, Flynn averaged 5.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists on 40.9 percent shooting from the field and 35 percent shooting from three-point range. He had his moments, but struggled to stay consistent.

All in all, San Antonio is known for its player development and perhaps this situation can help Flynn keep his career going.

Malachi Flynn’s 2023-24 stats

In totality, Flynn appeared in 69 games with Toronto, New York and Detroit.

The 26-year-old averaged 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 41.8 percent shooting from the field and 33.1 percent shooting from deep.

For his career, Flynn is shooting 38.7 percent from the field and 33.4 percent from downtown.
